The Healing Power of Fungi

Empowering New Orleans Through Regenerative Agriculture and Mushroom Cultivation

Myco Bayou is an educational cooperative that  focuses on mushroom cultivation, utilizing waste from commercial growing operations and accessible materials, to generate affordable food, medicine, and ecological restoration in New Orleans. Its purpose is to spread awareness about the versatility and abundance of mushrooms as a cornerstone species in each ecosystem, supporting the health and relationships between plants, as well as providing a rich source of nutrients that support immune health and detoxification of the body.

This project arises from a recognition that the current food system is failing many people and that fungi and the communities who care for them hold transformational potential. By reconnecting with ancestral knowledge, land-based practices, and cooperative models, we can begin to address the interwoven issues of food insecurity, toxic soil, cultural erasure, and environmental justice.
